Gonzalo Llosa assumes Technical Coordination of the Amazon Regional Observatory

Gonzalo Llosa has assumed the position of Technical Coordinator of the Amazon Regional Observatory (ARO), succeeding Arnaldo Carneiro, who led the Observatory over the past year. A Peruvian ecologist, Llosa graduated from the University of Brasília (UnB) and holds a postgraduate degree in Biological Oceanography from the University of Paris. He brings more than three decades of experience in environmental management, biodiversity conservation, international cooperation and public policy.

Throughout his professional career, he has worked with research institutions, multilateral organizations, Peruvian public agencies and international organizations, leading initiatives in environmental monitoring, protected area management, sustainable development, resilient cities and international cooperation.

A significant part of his career has been devoted to the Peruvian Amazon. At the Peruvian Amazon Research Institute (IIAP), based in Iquitos, he led the Aquatic Ecosystems and Biodiversity research programmes, as well as the International Cooperation Office, helping strengthen collaboration among scientific research, environmental management and regional cooperation.
